Hello my friends,

Welcome to my midlife crisis! I was frustrated that I couldn’t find a job as a spokesperson/info officer for a environmental agency, so it seems that starting my own green movement was the best option… after all, I already have my own religion (schilkenetics), radio show, and of course, really big kitchen!

www.sustaiablestpete.org is not quite ready to go, but will be soon. I am writing because I am needing your eye! I would like to post a bunch of images of St. Pete, of the environment, or other related things.

Sustainable St. Pete will initially focus on just a few things.

The first and foremost is disseminating information and trying to whip people into a frenzy about building a ‘green enterprise zone’ (or sustainability enterprise zone, but that is harder to say) here in St. Pete.

We (and I say we not in the royal way, but because the amazing Chris Jenkins is doing the heavy lifting on the site, and because I want SSP to be a community) will also focus on intensifying the city’s focus on sustainability, which includes, but of course is not limited to: gray water use, commercial and residential recycling, public transportation, historic preservation, native plantings, and many more things (suggestions???).

and also, we will have places for people to blog, comment, and post any related events and actions happening.

I can’t separate my interests, so sustainability in St. Pete to me means keeping a beautiful place lovely; supporting peace and justice; creating community; taking care of the planet and leaving a lighter footprint on it; and getting leaders to lead rightly.

There isn’t much I can do about the planet, or the country, or maybe even our state or county, but I can take action in St. Pete. If there is something that matters to you, I hope you will contribute.

Right now, again, I am looking for pictures and art work to put up on the site. If you have a few that you don’t mind sharing, Sweet! and thanks, from the bottom of my little midlife crisising heart!
