Mark Runge doesn’t want to talk about his work.

He would rather you talk about it, or have a conversation with the work.

mother_of_three-302x417(Mother of Three, 2008, gunpowder & water color on paper)

Looking at the show, Mark’s vocabulary emerges.

Veteran of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm in Iraq, Mark Runge started using gunpowder as a means to express the emotional residue of his experiences in the desert.  From literal figures to total abstraction, this body of work shows the possibilities of drawing with other than art tools.  Also included in the show are pieces executed in traditional drawing media.

We are having a party on December 4th to celebrate his show, Still Hot.

Free and open to the public! Snacky things and drinks on the house.

    Hello Globesters,
I hope you all had a good Thanksgiving, full of love and lacking angst, or at least full of like and only mildly discombobulating. All good intentions of sending out any propaganda went out the window, but there are so many good things going on in the next few days, I didn’t want to miss telling you.
And if you think of it, the Globe makes an awfully good present to people during the holidays. We make personalized Gift Certificates, and I will also be baking cookies, making fudge, and putting together gifts, all at super reasonable prices. If you let me know what your budget is, with enough notice I can put together something pretty cool!
    Coming up at the Globe!
Wednesday evening our dear Natty is back to read your Tarot cards. She starts around 7:30, and is usually here until 11 or so.
Thursday evening is the Alan Watts discussion group. We just had someone in tonight asking about it–if you are familiar with this wonderful Zen philosopher or not, you can join up to talk about Zen Buddhist teachings and practices. They meet the 1st & 3rd Thursday of the month, starting around 7pm. Alan Watts airs every Wednesday on WMNF 88.5fm at 11a.m.
Friday evening we are having a big ol’ art party for our new show, Still Hot, by artist Mark Runge. From his artist statement: Veteran of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm in Iraq, Mark Runge started using gunpowder as a means to express the emotional residue of his experiences in the desert.  From literal figures to total abstraction, this body of work shows the possibilities of drawing with other than art tools.  Also included in the show are pieces executed in traditional drawing media.
The opening is free and open to the public (we want you to come!) with some free treats and eats. There will be a collection and some drink specials to benefit the Veterans for Peace. 7-10pm.
Saturday evening is Game night, when bunches of regular people reveal their inner game loving selves, and play board games all night. Starts around 6, goes late. Also Megan’s last night! Sad, come say adieu.

12/10 USF St. Pete’s Honors Program presents Sex, Gender & Race, A discussion of marginalized communities. This is free and open to the public, and USF is kindly offering refreshments on the house. 6-9pm, with the discussion starting at 7pm.
12/18  Lauris Vidal! Lauris Vidal! Yay! In a year when I have heard a bunch of new music, discovering Lauris Vidal had been one of my happiest finds (Thanks, HGWT!). He is finally playing the Globe, with Andy Zipf and Damion Suomi. 5$ @ the door, 9pm show.
More a’coming soon. Thanks again, so very much, for your supporting the Globe. It would be pretty dull without you,

I just can’t stand the idea of drilling for oil off the coast of Florida. And the shadiness of the group pushing for it is even more frustrating. Luckily Floridians of all types feel the same, and are taking action. One group meets Wednesday nights in downtown St. Pete.
